Reno, NV - Open Plan Fusion
The main objective in remodeling this home was opening up the kitchen to the living room, to create a more contemporary style open living space. The kitchen was reconfigured for efficient cooking and entertaining with a large island. We removed a wall and extended the countertop, replacing the wall separating the kitchen and living room and making space for seating, adding four white leather and walnut counter stools, convenient for facing either the kitchen or living room.
The bright white kitchen features glossy ceramic tile backsplash, a polished carrara quartz countertop, a modern walnut linear pendant, custom slab vertical grain walnut cabinets¬¬ with shiny white upper cabinets, and white oak plank flooring used throughout the home.
Functionality was important. We changed the fireplace to gas and designed a surround solution with wood storage. For casual dining, we created a breakfast nook set off from the rest of the space with a dramatic wall covering accent wall. We also created a work space within the great room, designing a long desk with a polished carrara waterfall top and steel drawer fronts situated behind the sofa. All new furnishings included a custom sectional, nook cabinet and white mahogany dining table, modern circular light fixtures and a glass top center table with four pull-out brightly patterned ottomans. Antique nickel geometrics, pearl trays and thick cylinder glass vases in blues and greens accessorize the space.
The clients love their backyard and the indoor-outdoor living concept. The entire great room wall opens up to the deck with wall-to-wall glass sliding doors for an open air feel. The project included space planning for the outdoor kitchen, furniture, fire pit and night lighting. We maximized the seating and comfort with Janus et Cie outdoor furniture – dining table, chairs, lounges, ottomans and modular sofas ¬– while also maximizing style.
