The Great Outdoors
Our client, a successful executive in the cosmetics industry, wanted to take advantage of a large vacant space on her property to create a beautiful and functional outdoor living space for entertaining family and clients, and holding business meetings. She needed a place that could accommodate a small group of eight for Sunday brunch, as well as large corporate gatherings of up to 35 colleagues. She wanted the outdoor great room to be coordinated with the contemporary interior of her home, as well as comfortable and inviting.
The great room sits on a broad stone patio between the main house and pool. A single-gabled roof raised high on four corner pillars defines its simple, elegant silhouette. Beneath, exposed truss beams add dramatic height and visually compelling geometric repetition, while allowing light and air to move pleasantly through.
Numerous opportunities for entertaining, socializing, relaxing are afforded by the arrangement of seating areas throughout the space – each with a unique sensibility. A large central dining table seats twelve, perfect for more formal occasions. An adjacent lounge area features three couches surrounding an ultra-modern table incorporating a fire pit. End tables offer convenient spots for drinks and hors d'oeuvres. This area is chic yet wonderfully cozy.
At the opposite end is a fully-equipped wet bar and Kitchen, boasting polished granite counter tops, stainless-steel appliances and hardware, and a large built-in grill. Up to six guests can span the length of the bar, seated in matching high-backed bar stools.
Contemporary ceiling fans keep the breeze moving throughout, and radiant heaters provide warmth for chilly evenings or cooler seasons. Lighting fixtures mounted above are positioned strategically to achieve a lovely ambiance that compliments the structure itself.
