Before the first shovelful of Texas soil was turned for this two-story, 9,000-square-foot home, my clients commissioned me to review and revise the blueprints and then create a whole-house design. They wanted modern, clean lines, subtle references to the Lone Star State and a comfortable, luxurious feel that suits their upscale-casual lifestyle. These empty-nesters have two grown children and four grandchildren, and they love to entertain. They appreciate art and authentic materials, especially if those elements have historic value.
Because the house is spacious and has 12-foot ceilings, my overriding goal was to make it feel warm and welcoming. Beyond that, I focused on the details that make a home unique, memorable, well-organized and functional.
The beautifully rugged geography of North Central Texas inspired the textures and colors throughout this lovely home in Westlake, northwest of Dallas. But my clients’ relaxed, gracious lifestyle was the jumping-off point for the warm vibe that permeates the residence.
