Wine lounge
Design Concept Statement
This design concept is based on extensive questions to capture my client’s personal style and taste as well as the function and comfort of the room. The room is being changed from an Old-World formal living room that was rarely used to a Transitional comfortable conversational room meant to be used daily. We are creating a room that is for conversation with friends, enjoying wine and listening to music. The room will also be unique with beautiful and artistic pieces. The room will be comfortable and create the ambience of a wine/piano lounge.
Project Challenges
• Change a little used living room into a fun entertainment room.
• Create a floor plan that is conducive to conversation.
• Work with the client’s existing pieces (draperies, piano, and artwork).
• Find comfortable seating.
• Find unique interesting accents.
• Find the perfect luxurious fabrics and leathers.
• Find lighting that will give the ambience of a wine/piano lounge.
• Bring the whole project together to create a total look.
Project Solutions
The room was designed to be a piano/wine lounge. I decided to arrange the room with four comfortable chairs facing each other. This was conducive to great conversation. The chairs are covered in a soft quilted leather with a textured boucle fabric sides. The chairs were then accented with a silk down pillow. The two drink tables have a hand-forged iron base in an antiqued iron finish with a veneered petrified wood top. The client had a black granite fireplace surround, so I finished the legs of the ottoman in a satin black paint. I then found a nickel organically grown sculpture fireplace screen that is mounted on a black granite base. When you are in the room it looks like the screen is growing out of the hearth. I added a custom drink cabinet to the wall opposite the fireplace. We reframed the artwork to give a more transitional look. I then used some hand-made artistic pendant lights to finish the look. This little used room turned into the favorite room in the home, both for entertaining and for relaxing alone.
