Oops! Correction -- I had meant to say 'scotch Moss' , that's what it say it is in the photo above. Similar to Irish moss I guess, love it.

Dig Your Garden Landscape Design

In northern California landscapes I like using Dymondia margaretae - Silver Carpet between pavers because of its low water needs and its mat, low growing habit. And Elfin Thyme, as shown in this photos below the steps. Soft and spongy it is great to walk on barefoot too! Dymondia shown co-mingling they the Elfin Thyme along the sides.
