Is finishing a basement considered a renovation? I ask because that's what I will be doing soon and because I never see basements on houzz and they are not mentioned in this article. Are finished basements a Midwest thing? I purchased my new construction home without a finished basement. Now, 12 years later, I'm ready to finish it as well as update the kitchen. Finished basements increase the value of your home... Don't they?

@Robinlynn29: we, here in California, for the most part, do not have basements. Earthquakes. Wish we did. Grew up in New York and it doubled the size of one's house. Guessing you are in the (privileged) minority.
