MinAmsterdam

@Tomasz German: I live in Amsterdam, so I totally understand you want to make the most of light and space in gloomy environments. My suggestions for more bright and open spaces: "high beds" (I'm sorry but I don't know how they're called in English!) like these one

They allow for more playing area, and you can even put a desk or storage units underneath. We have one in my son's bedroom and have a rug on the floor, storage for toys and an extra mattress (with a nice fabric cover) leaning against the wall under the bed, so there's an extra sleeping place and it functions as a warm backrest when the kids play on the floor. My second tip for bright spaces: light floors! It's amazing what a difference it makes. We have a seamless floor in a very light tone in our living areas, like this one Sensovloer and natural oak on the sleeping areas, treated with Skylt, which has no colour nor shine, so the wood looks perfectly natural. If changing your floors is out of the question, you may consider painting them (there's special paints for floors out there) or a large rug in a light color.

I just love those pull out closets! I would never think of that on my own. We have a king bed in our master bedroom. But I sleep so much better in the single bed that is tucked into a sleeping nook in my office. I filled the bed with pink, white and black pillows. When I sleep there I feel safe. I feel like I am eight years old again.
