Feather Reed and Switchgrass both do well in zone 4 and grow to five feet tall. Different colors available too.

Carex divulsa, AKA Berkley Sedge, often erroneously sold as Carex tumulicola, is in reality European Gray Sedge. NOT NATIVE to the USA. In California there are many wonderful native sedges, but this is not one of them. You may try Carex praegracilis , Cares pachystachya, Carex feta, Carex nudata, Carex vulpinoidea, Check with your local chapter of the California Native Plant Society for advice. https://www.cnps.org
