I have an 11-year-old granite counter (high quartz content...this varies in granite) that has seen rough use. It has no chipping anywhere, even around the undermount farm sink. It does have some slightly roughened areas at the back edge of the sink, though, where constant exposure to water has changed the structure of the stone. It has become more a little more opaque there, and it feels more porous. But it is still intact and not weakened, as far as I can tell. To me, it looks like normal wear on older stone work. I think if you get small chips you can get them ground out of they bother you.

@spisland - I have Cambria, have had for several years. Right after install, before I even had backsplash installed I chipped an edge, guess what, it was repaired and I can't even tell! Love my quartz, very durable, looks like granite and I NEVER have to seal it! I would do it again and again and again.

The sealing of granite is not a big deal. You simply wipe on/wipe off the product. That shouldn’t be a concern when you are choosing. I have granite and love it.
