Simone's Painting and Renovations

I, too, agree with the list. For sure you could add a couple of items (zester, pastry blender..), but the list is very complete in my opinion and I bake a lot. I, too, got my kitchenaid mixer at age 50 or so, and I use it almost daily. I love, love, love it. I use my scale when I feed my sourdough every week and sometimes in between. But for someone starting their kitchen, this list will suffice and make so they can follow most recipes without having to substitute a tool for another. I have made many things with out these tools (rolled pie dough with soup cans anyone?), so, of course, you could do without, but to make is simple and easy, these would cover most situations.

A 30cm ruler, nothing fancy, just a plastic ruler my local council gave me when I moved to my town. Why? Christmas baking time it was invaluable for ensuring my shortbread was symmetrically round and the height was even. I then used its edges to make the indentations so as the shortbread would break up easily. It also worked a charm when trying to get the thickness even, used it like a concrete trowl!

My wedding present 'Kenwood mixer' - 45 years ago - bread making, short crust, biscuit pastries, pavlovas, Christmas/fruit cakes, wonderful. Regular scales I can just place the bowl onto for measuring. Spatulas, grandma's old fashioned tablespoons and flat bladed knives, sifter. Decent set of saucepans. 8 years ago - food processor - Magimix, used regularly :)
