I just got back. Thank you for the nice comments about our yard and home.
NIDNAY, yes , that is a blue balloon flower.
VANESSA - When we built our house 30 years ago, we had some very basic landscaping done ( mostly foundation plantings ) by a (very basic , haha ) landscaper. Over the years though, our yard has gone through different iterations and almost nothing is as it was to begin with, haha ! We’ve added on beds, removed and/or replaced small trees and shrubs . I sometimes transplant perennials when they no longer suit their spot. We have also thinned out the crowns of , and limbed up , the big trees in the front ( even since that picture was taken two years ago ) .
— The tree by the fence is a Hakuro-nishiki variegated/dappled Japanese willow.
—- The tree between the chairs is a dwarf crabapple ( no fruit, just white blooms ) .
Gosh, Vanessa, I’m so flattered . Thank you, again. I have saved the pics. to my ideabooks under “Posts” - our yard.
SWRITE - You and Nidnay sound like professional photographers - a foreign language to me ! I have done all of the design ( not my hubby’s thing, although he is very supportive ). We have someone mow , treat and fertilize our yard. If I pick out something larger at a nursery, he plants it for us where we want it. His company helps us with trimming, edging and mulching once a year. Our grown son trims the boxwoods and prunes the lace leaf maples because he enjoys that. The walls , patio and walkway were our design, professionally installed.
WMSIMONS - We live in Ohio.
BETH - Bless you for taking care of those babies! I couldn’t do that .You have a big heart for all manner of wildlife ( and house cats, too ;) ) You approach all these critters with such nonchalance and humor. You’re a natural !
LADMA - Re. the astilbes, I really have no advice, I’m sorry. We do sprinkle mulch between the ground cover ( sweet woodruff and ivy ) , so that bed stays moist most of the time. I wait ‘til Fall to cut them back.
MELINDAS - you have a beautiful yard !
Like Vanessa said, I’ve learned so much from you all today. ( Still will avert my eyes if I see an opossum, though, lol.) Scared to death of Lyme Disease so it’s reassuring to know nature takes care of some of its own.
