Reply to: Engineered is wood . it's just layers of thinner wood glued together. often it's better than a solid wood since it takes expansion and contraction better. I did the wide plank french oak on my floors and love them. It's Calif. Classics, Mediterranean collection . they have at least 12 other colors in that line. these are all similar looks by diff brands. maybe check out a flooring store and bring home some samples? see what you like? Personally I despise vinyl, but that's me. (unless you can find a really really good quality that looks like the wood, but then you're paying just as much as you would for real wood!)

Reply to: Jeni , as SJ recommended a natural color would be best. Character/Rustic grades also help to hide eventual imperfections cause by regular day to day use. Here is one of our most popular inspirational photos. A very light whitewash over American White Oak Rift & Quartered grain.
