Not surprisingly, Ikea is the least expensive choice. The Grimslov in the off white is a good bargain. It is thermofoil, and an off white, but if you can make it work, and are OK with the DIY, it's a winner. Unfortunately, most people think it's not white enough, or want an actual wood, not thermofoil. So that's why we're looking at everything else. I'm leaving the lighting in there as a margin of error, because I'm not used to the planner and I'm sure I forgot something. $150 won't break anything. You can also see the sale vs not on sale price.
Ikea $6112
I'm not going to go through and post the screenshots of the rest of the quotes. They are uploaded in the Idea Book if you want to view them.
Woodstar $6938. 3/8" furniture board construction, framed assembled American made cabinets, factory conversion varnish, upgraded to soft close drawers. White laminate sides standard. It's line I've used a lot for budget projects. It is a stock sized line, and has it's limitations too. But it can work well with some creativity. It does not come with soft close drawers, so it was upgraded to that so that all of the specs matched up fairly well for the comparison.
Wolf Classic $7146 1/2"plywood framed American made line, soft close drawers, thermofoil wrap door. White laminate sides standard. Of the thermofoil wraps, this is a really nice one. Getting plywood at this price is a good deal for making it light for a DIYer to install. It's not needed for structural reasons.
KCD $8257 Flatpack RTA. Import 1/2" plywood sides, painted "wood" doors, soft close drawers. Not conversion varnish. A catalyzed finish though. White laminate sides standard. A friend carries these. I think he has more than an average margin on these if you want to know. Not that crazy about the import thing, or the finish.
Merillat Classic $9237. 3/8" furniture board sides, maple doors with factory conversion varnish, matching laminate sides, soft close is a free upgrade. Assembled. I use these cabinets a lot. They have a decent number of doors and colors and options that you can satisfy 70% of people. With a great installer, they look great. Only 2 whites offered. The Cotton is what most people do.
Fabuwood $10,885 1/2" plywood laminate color matched sides, maple doors, factory conversion varnish. Import RTA put together in various regional locations. Advertised hard without that fact. Has some alterations performed at the assembly sites by the assemblers. More options than a lot of stock lines. Still not anywhere close to a semi custom line. One white color only.
Waypoint $12,061 American made. 1/2" plywood sides standard is what differentiates Waypoint from it's American Woodmark and Shenendoah brethren available at box stores. And the fact that the skill level of the box store employees is a big question mark. Sides are skinned. A low level semi custom to high stock line. Options are available to do a lot here. two "white" colors available.
Semi-Handmade + IKEA $11,357. RTA This is for their matte thermoil shaker. I've not seen this in person, but if you you are OK with thermofoil, it can be had much less expensively.
Ikea +Barker FINISHED $12,859. RTA Add $500 if Ikea isn't on sale. This is with the free shipping limit from Barker reached, plus the 7.5% discount for orders over 5K. Ikea boxes must have cover panels to finish off the sides. The fridge panels, toe kicks and fillers must match, and are from Barker as well. Decent quality doors, finished in a catalyzed lacquer.
DuraSupreme Frameless $14,686. This is the only other frameless line being quoted here other than Ikea. Frameless just isn't 'Murican. :~/ Minnesota made, 5 different conversion varnish whites, and custom colors are an option as well. 3/4" sides that are upgraded to integral finished, and don't require cover panels unless you want to do decorative door sides. That means a bit of adjustment in the design, but luckily Dura does custom sizes to 1/4". All manners of customizations, actually. Blum hardware and the organizers are Hafele. Top notch inside and out.
