I agree! Having lived in the North and now experiencing housing in the South, hallways are necessary to maintain air flow, light, and traffic circulation. Have seen too many houses that traffic flows across the wrong rooms because common walls for building convenience were designed back to back -which causes unwanted access to get from a public/common area to public/common area. Personally, I don't want my kitchen to become a common traffic access route to cross through from the garage or to have a single access door to a bedroom between counters. I don't want a forced traffic pattern cutting through the great room, flex room, or separate dining room because common walls have been placed to limit even a short hallway. ….with out a hallway, if a public room is in use, it's a short cut, now becoming the norm route. It all comes down to personal preference to design and live to your lifestyle.

I actually love a nice hallway. I designed a 5' wide 40' long hallway with 12' ceilings as part of the entrance of my house.

After always having homes with hallway, this property, which I personally designed has NONE!! I love lost many windows and terrific of my friends call hallways rat holes.....I would never have hallways again.....
