annie651, I applaud your warnings against haphazard plantings of non-native plants. However, there is only one Pistacia native to the western hemisphere, P. mexicana. Unfortunately, this tree is evergreen, so doesn't give fall color. The USDA shows it growing only in Val Verde county, TX; however it will grow in any warm, dry climate with some reports of it growing in Dallas, TX. HERE is a picture of one at the state capital in Austin, TX. It is native down into Mexico along the Sierra Madre Oriental mountain range.
