The person who feels qualified to put on the finer point(s) and then gives the sq. ft estimate with hand site work, really gives me a chuckle.....methinks you have no idea of costs, for this house. Example: so are we to base the excavation costs with building costs. That is not a usual practice in the business. If you really believe the writers take on the Greenwich crew hand digging four plus feet of solid granite, with hand tools, you are very naive. I also would be surprised if their crew had a group of masons in-house to perform the stonework that is involved inside and out. Regardless of what the owners spent, someone prepared a budget of costs before starting this project. The builder likely did the project on a T&M or Cost Plus basis or used some sort of allowances for grey areas with details that were yet to be determined. One thing is for sure. Had the owners waited a few years to do the project, costs would have risen across the board. The value that was delivered by architect and builders was exceedingly more than the dollars spent. Just factor the advertising and word of mouth, press releases, responses that led emotionally motivated people to action. Writing back, asking questions, expressing passion for what they appreciate seeing as a rare object of lasting beauty that will truly be a legacy to whoever owns its and shares it. Thanks you very much for having such good taste in architecture and artisan craftsmanship.
