I started my first company in a home office in my studio apartment over 30 years ago. My square butcher block dining table and Breuer chairs were the 'desks' for two typewriters used by my Assistant and Product Development Manager. I worked from the sofa and coffee table which had the telephone nearby. The saving grace was six very large closets of which two were used to hide filing cabinets and office supplies. The copy machine - a small OKI workhorse - was covered with a table cloth and candle after hours. This arrangement worked well for four years until I bought a house and used the two upstairs bedrooms, bathroom, three closets and part of the walk-in attic for the office for 23 years. By then, my office staff had grown to six desks used by seven employees and me. More recently, I moved to a house that had been designed by a CPA and has an office wing: a separate staff office with great windows, accommodating four desks, shelves and filing cabinets ... plus I have my own spacious office with a fireplace and windows on two sides that overlook my bird feeding station and gardens. It doesn't get much better than this!

I prefer to face the wall, which will be helpful to focus on the work.
