KITCHEN
The accent piece at the end of island is a fun “touch of the utnexpected,” it also adds extra countertop space for chopping and other food prep. The drawers are decorative false front -each stack of four false drawers forms a vertical door; each pair of doors opens to a cabinet with adjustable shelves.
Tiling the seating area gives a little more durability to the surface, while also making a stylish statement that gives a beautiful burst of color and pattern. The tile here doesn’t need to be the same as the backsplash tile, especially if the backsplash is a more plain finish, like a crisp white subway pattern. Besides, letting the island front be its own feature is more unexpected and fun.
Maybe this is extended Penn. end...
RE: vent hoods : Use door restrictors. Due to the projection of the hood, the doors on any directly adjacent wall cabinets will hit the hood when opened. To avoid dinging your beautiful cabinet doors, you have two options. You can add a restrictor to the door closest to the hood, keeping the door from opening past 90 degrees. Or you can use a door that opens away from the hood, as shown here.
Shallow Cabinets: Similar to a tip-out drawer, a shallow cabinet like this can be a great way to use a thin space left at the end of a larger cabinet. A simple cabinet with doors is generally a less expensive solution than drawers and offers plenty of functionality. Include a deep lip on your interior shelves and you won’t have to worry about large items falling off.
Elec. Plugs AND USB port (apple different than PC)
SIDE OF ISLAND: depending on the configuration of your cabinets, you may have a space for a small tip-out drawer but not a full-depth drawer. In this EX. the space behind this tip-out drawer is actually used up by a full drawer accessed from the adjacent face of the island. The space left is small, but it needn’t go to waste. .... an excellent size for holding just a few power ports, which can then be used to charge an item sitting on the counter, such as a laptop or wireless speaker. You can leave the drawer open while it’s in use without having a full-extension drawer protruding into your work space.
A simple drawer at the bottom of the cabinet is handy for storing items that aren’t used frequently. The drawer will be in an area where someone is often standing, so consider whether that’s practical.
Handle directions for DW and garbage cabinet go HZ, uber sink goes VT
Hood, micron in side cabinet (now opened up byusland),blk perimeter counter, markets on island
Halfway up. This (far too intricate) backsplash goes halfway up the wall — just the right amount so that the detailed pattern doesn’t overwhelm the eye. Capping the backsplash with a shelf adds to the kitchen’s storage and design.
Yes, that might be g good alternative...like glass ... smooth surface, easy to clean.
Like the hood , pop of color for bk splash and band to tie in around counter , not real fan of geometric shapes in tile.
Look @oven hood w/ mantle : also island color: Temptation, Benjamin Moore
Color on door (2 basic slabs joined together, by the way) : paint color: Kendall Charcoal, Benjamin Moore
White aplliances (even DW) when your cabinetry is a pale tone. Kitchens can be light and breezy without the cabinetry being strictly white. Pale neutrals, a bit darker than off-white, make for a welcoming atmosphere, and white appliances help set off their subtle undertones. Good color on cabinets.
These cabinets include a coffee and tea station with integrated outlets for the coffee maker and microwave, and the bottom shelf pulls out. They also include filing cabinets for schoolwork and other household papers. Retractable pocket cabinet doors tuck out of the way.
Micro not over oven, big pot drawers to side
The designer switched up the layout to make the most of the space. “By moving the refrigerator, oven and microwave to the opposite wall, we were able to tuck everything in neatly, provide more cabinet space, maximize countertop workspace on the other side and keep everything streamlined,” (across is an induction cooktop w/pullout drawers undrrneath). There even was enough space to tuck in a wine cooler with a coffee station above it." By using budget-friendly and attractive cabinets from Ikea, they were able to splurge on elements like quartz countertops, elegant cabinet hardware and custom details. Using 40-inch-high Ikea cabinetry maximized storage. Designer then created custom millwork in a stepped fascia design at the top of the cabinetry to meet the ceiling neatly. “I didn’t want to leave a gap, and typical crown molding would have been too busy — this molding keeps the streamlined look we were going for and elevated the look of the Ikea cabinetry,” -- another way she elevated the look was by adding cabinet hardware by Richelieu. Small island includex 2 banks of drawers +cabinets, end bookshelf is lined with Ikea butcher block.
Most counter top quartz / butcher block work area -- but remember how chewed up mom's butcher was
ISLAND: size different top seating
Blue kitchen (!) : paint B Moore "indi go-go" Overscaled pulls add a good amount of the finish throughout the room. For contrast, the multistone mosaic backsplash (pattern + texture look good here, good contradr) and quartz countertops are more modern. Ikat-inspired fabric on the stool slipcovers is an eclectic and lively touch. With two toddlers around, indoor-outdoor fabric was a must — it’s easy to remove and wash them.
Love large slab / 2 sided seating @ island. Upper cabinets are white, like the walls, so they disappear, while the lower gray painted cabinets ground the kitchen. All of the countertops are from Cambria
Drawer inside the trash drawer. Trash drawers are a well-known solution for organization within the kitchen. However, adding a drawer inside the trash drawer (where there is usually wasted space above the cans) is an inventive, hidden way to store things such as trash bags, oven mitts and hand towels.
COLORS!, turq on lower, white upper, grey backsplash warm wood countertop..... love combo
GENIUS!
The pantry has bifold doors, which take up less space than outward-opening ones, and ig is hinged on one side ( the right door off the left one). Boosted by the condiment racks inside the doors -- see next photo.
Small island has durable, honed black granite work instead of oak (on rest of kitchen). Also has shelving and racks for bowls and kitchen gear, and three end drawers to stash cutlery, napkins and placemats.
Great ideas, see pix on left. .. cabinet paint: Elephant’s Breath, Farrow & Ball
Balance all white kitchen : open walnut shelf;.blue gray paint on the peninsula — B Moore lead grey (!) is just enough color so the kitchen doesn’t feel all-white. Accessories like large wood cutting boards, plants and blue-and-white dishes bring more balance.
The modern appliance garage helps keep the kitchen uncluttered. The frosted glass provides a nice balance between solid wood and open storage. It obscures what’s behind it while making the cabinets feel less solid and more airy. LOVE THE LOOK, if you can sacrifice work area as they did w/paralell big island.
Don't like open shelving, but these are interesting, like boxes & rails
Great! Plumbed however is asking too much. Love slide out shelf for coffee machine, love organized shelf, LOVE doors open and slide out of da way
A well-defined catch-all space : I like the use of cabinet side.
Dedicated appliance storage for small appliances frees up counter space for more valuable uses. When designing your kitchen or remodeling cabinets, consider adding an appliance garage to keep your tools tucked away (however remember Mugg's tall cabinet & loss of counter space). Homeowners also can convert an existing cabinet by installing pullout shelves that offer quick and easy access to appliances when you need them.
??!! WOW - look at lids on pot handles!! Glideware makes this pullout cabinet organizer - fits any standard base cabinet for easy access to pots and pans, and it can be adapted for use in pantries, closets and other areas of the home.
See that microwave on the R in the divider - like. Need landing pad area, maybe slide out "cutting bd" - also, door in entirty makes message center (little too rustic)
She also saved money by distressing this inexpensive Ikea cabinet, giving it an antique patina. It is bolted to the wall to make it look embedded in the brick. “They didn’t want guests having to guess at where to find a glass or a coffee mug so they opted for this glass-front cabinet,” he says. “Everyone can see everything they need and grab it without a cabinet search.”
Island perfect - butcher blk top, 2 chair, micro in there. . .
White w/greeny-blue island -and that slab bksplsh. Deep green walls cool.....
Love the deep green (olive) back splash
This is peninsula, but as island look @ all the drawers & microwave there
2 tone cabinet scheme: light up top, dk below - dk is espresso stained alder - not black
This drawer features two separate sections: a deep area for housing big pots and a shallow roll-out for storing potholders, lids and trivets.
think about it
think on this: white upper and ISLAND, colored lowers : may be easier to keep clean (white island because of strong sun)
well, well, look at that color blue
Vertical storage for cutting boards, trays and cookie sheets. Since I didn’t have a tall vertical storage space, I would stash these items in a large drawer under my oven. Items rested on top of each other, and it was always difficult to find what I was looking for. My solution was to remove the middle shelf from a small lower cabinet so I would have enough height to store taller items. I purchased a slide-out organizer designed for storing large trays, cutting boards and cookie sheets.
