I just recently started a collection of antique demijohns. I live here in Bavaria and travel to large antique/flea markets in France and Belgium. I ran into a dealer who showed me how to tell if it was handblown or not. If the bottle has a seam it it not authentic hand blown. This is the first thing I look for now. I absolutely love my demijohns and looking for new ideas to decorate them with. Love your idea book.

In the 70's it was popular to turn these demijohns in to terrariums. The substrate was layered in the bottom, poured in through a funnel. The plants would be planted using long tongs. If you used the right materials and plants you would create a self sustaining ecosystem in a bottle.

I saw a tabletop display in a restaurant of 5 demijohns, with the metal carboys used as light shades above. Beautiful use of those items.
