We are a 50 something's couple who bought a home(stock, builders style) in 2005. We have been doing work to upgrade and customize it little by little over these years. Our next project is the kitchen starting in the fall of this year. I have designed a cottage style facelift meant to rid the kitchen of that "stock-style,builders kitchen" By painting and adding mouldings to the stock cabinets to give them a customized look, painting the island a different but coordinating color with a different counter that the cabinets tops will have, carrying our hardwood floors(which is now tile) throughout the kitchen, new appliances, tongue and groove on the walls, new lighting and backsplash.......and done....new kitchen for under $10,000. Cant wait!!

We are in our 20s and have our first home, we decided that we want to remodel to make it ours... the more time we have the more custom we can make it, and down the line when we have to sell we could get more out of it. It is interesting to see that the trend is to remodel for your own happiness first and overall house value later.
