What's In Your Wine Cellar?

When I first joined Houzz, way back in November 2008, I was trying to figure out how to organize and decorate a tiny wine cellar my husband built in a part of our basement that's the size of a large closet.

After spending a lot of time with the photos, I decided to take a route I hadn't seen anywhere. I'm in the process of papering the walls that don't have shelves with funny pictures of friends - the kind of pictures that are too crazy for Facebook (they're not really THAT crazy - my friends and I avoid putting anything even mildly controversial on Facebook). It looks great.

I realized yesterday, though, that t had been a while since I'd perused the wine cellar photos here on Houzz, and I was interested to see what was new. I'm glad I did, too, because there are some really great wine cellar ideas here:

This room, in all it's gothic drama, would be an amazing setting for a dinner party. Especially a dinner party on Halloween.

I absolutely love the idea of an old card catalog as wine storage unit.

I like the way these shelves are set back into the wall, creating the illusion of more space in the room itself.

In a wine cellar, the ceiling is prime decorating space (since the walls are usually covered with bottles).

And I love the way these glass walls show off that Matrixy look.

I think this room is so cool - I'm jealous of all the storage and I love the way the room looks just a little like the inside of the Matrix.

For some reason, Oriental rugs just work for me in the wine cellar - they fit.

I have a soft spot for riddling racks, but no room in my house for one. A large riddling rack would be a great addition to any bg wine cellar.

Wine cellars and ironwork seem to go hand in hand. These intricate walls are fabulous.

I love this arch and the brick - it feels so substantial.

I'm not sure how temperature and humidity control work when the walls are glass - if it's more difficult than with traditionally insulated walls - but this glassed in closet looks fantastic.
