Apartment 46 for the Home
Cheryl Biermann there are a number of products you can use to treat the wood, but I would recommend sanding them down first, to remove any natural fungus and/or mildew spores. I had a tree-trunk table unpleasantly surprise me by growing mushrooms! :) It also depends on the wood. Redwood has a natural sap that allows it to weather beautifully to a natural silver color. Pine rots very easily and is far too soft for that use. All-Weather Marine Poly Urethane is what I use for my outdoor projects. Good luck!
