What about using a nice outdoor bench with a storage seat? Special instructions can be added to the package delivery through the carriers website. They are larger for parcels that may not fit in the stand up ones, probably similar in cost, and they double as furniture!

I live in a rural area and want to build a bench for the rural mail carriers for our packages that won't fit in the mailbox, but when we lived in the city we had concrete urns on our front porch flanking our front door and in the summer we put big ferns in them. The mail carrier, ups, fed ex were all pretty good about hiding packages behind the urns, and I was thankful for that. For really large packages they would even walk it down my driveway and put it over our electric driveway gate where it was less likely to be seen from the road. Awesome.

I have the perfect wooden chest to put on my porch for packages but I can't find any information anywhere as to what sort of USPS approved lock I can install on it. It's wood, not metal. so I don't think a regular post office lock will work.
