Creative Work Requires Creative Storage

Technology is a wondrous thing, and I especially think so when I’m settled in on the sofa, laptop glowing, working from home. However, as great as it is to work in my PJ’s on rainy mornings, having a home office also means that I’m responsible for filing and storing the piles of paperwork that most jobs generate. We might be moving towards a paperless office, but in my world, it hasn’t come fast enough. In the meantime, here are some great home office storage options:

Bright and functional, the green freestanding closet and file cabinet in this space add personality along with their functionality.

Every little storage spot counts. I like how this design makes use of a small corner that might otherwise go wasted.

Some home offices require a LOT of storage space. These very simple, miminal closets are warm and unobtrusive, but they are also highly functional.

In contrast to many spartan and modern home office spaces, this traditional design feels warm and conveys personality and gravitas. In a space like this, repurposed bedroom or dining room furniture would make a great storage space.

Everything looks better behind an Eames chair, doesn't it? Even without the Eames element, though, this storage unit is attractive and functional. I like the mix of open spaces for attractive books and covered shelves to hide clutter.

This traditional home office set-up looks right at home in an open floor plan, butting up next to a living space and kitchen. The cabinets are actually from the Ikea kitchen line, ensuring a consistent look with the rest of the space.

These simple shelves are a cool alternative to traditional bookshelves. I love the white-on-orange - it brings life to the space - and while the shelves pictured mostly hold art objects, they'd look equally nice stacked with books and boxes.

I'm a huge fan of built-in bookshelves in any space, whether it's for work or play. This office's minimal look is energized by colorful books, and a full wall of storage space leaves plenty of room for folders and binders alongside first edition classics.

Neat, clean and functional. Matching boxes hold hundreds of files without cluttering up this organized home office. The ladder is a great touch, too, making access easy and attractive.
