I once planted two for ground erosion on a slope to contain an embankment...they handled the job well and are still controlling erosion in that spot..i would cut them back from time to time.

Jon I think you mean the tall Cryptomeria japonica 'Sekkan- sugi. In fact there is a Sungold mops nearby which is much lower

Effects of 1990 winter suggested this species is hardy to more like 10 degrees F. rather than -10 degrees F. The 'Sekkan-sugi' is not a tall example, it produces a tree of at least some height as is implied by the pointed shape. Although new on the market examples over 17 ft. tall were already being seen in Seattle by 2005. 'Sungold' and 'Golden Mop' are two different plants, I am not sure it is possible to identify which specific introduction the cypress show is using this photo only.
