Murals, decals and pop-art decor for your brony, Twihard or caped crusader in training

July 13, 2012
Even if you're not into superheroes, Middle Earth gaming, anime or My Little Pony, it's likely that someone else in your household is a comic book fanboy or fantasy fangirl. Perhaps you're even on your way to San Diego for Comic-Con 2012, where comic book fans, fantasy gamers and movie stars, anime fanatics, and others in between gather for a weekend of nerdfest fun. Read on for ideas to add comic book panache, pop art flair or Dark Knight mystique to your personal space.
From shams to throw pillows and wall murals, this boy's room is devoted to his love of the caped crusader Batman. I bet this New York family already has tickets to The Dark Knight Rises, premiering on July 20.
Muralist Tony Stafki brings the Force to this kid's bedroom. I can't help but think that the parents probably enjoy the 35-year-old fantasy as much as — or more than — their child does.
Yoda and R2-D2 make great above-the-door art. Here, Yoda seems to be saying, "Turn off light, save energy, little one. A good night's sleep, you will have. Hmmmm."
This contemporary Miami media room is every Star Wars and comic book fan's dream space. Swathed in blue with splashes of red, yellow and orange, the room appeals both to the young and young at heart.
Even the chairs resemble storm troopers.

Which came first: mural or decor? It's interesting to note that the microsuede sofa, throw pillows, area rug and floor pouf echo Thor's superhero colors. This media room would make any Thor (and Chris Hemsworth) fan happy.
Decals are a great option for a My Little Pony-themed room or "brony" man cave. In case you're not aware, "bronies" (plural of brony) is a term used for men who are fans of the TV show, My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. As I type, hundreds of bronies are preparing for a "Brony Meetup" at San Diego Comic-Con before the main My Little Pony panel discussion.
Director Marc Webber's The Amazing Spider-Man broke blockbuster records last week and is well on its way to becoming one of the year's highest-grossing films.
If you're not willing to declare your love for Spidey through big wall murals or conspicuous decor, try something more subtle, such as this custom ceiling fan design.

Artists at The Comics Factory create personalized canvases and prints of your favorite superheroes and villains using your likeness.
As the parents of these two kids have done, try turning the little ones' penchant for tantrums and spills into their very own superhero handles. If you can't beat them, have fun with them.
This art deco-inspired game table looks like it was taken right out of Superman's Planet Krypton. The table legs look like pieces of "White K," white forms of the more commonly known (and more potent) green kryptonite.
Members of the Adrian Empire, a national nonprofit educating the public about swordfighting and combat through exhibitions at this year's Comic-Con, would delight in having this knight column at any entryway, as in this Mediterranean-gone-medieval home in Texas.
I would not be surprised to find the owner of this cottage at this year's Comic-Con. A serious collector of J.R.R. Tolkien books and memorabilia, the homeowner wanted to create a small cottage to house and protect his collection. This sure beats a dungeonlike basement, doesn't it?
Although the actors and actresses behind the übersuccessful Harry Potter franchise have all moved on to more mature roles, generations to come have yet to discover the magic of Hogwarts. This mural of Hedwig and Hagrid is a little bit fantasy, a little bit rock and roll, making it perfect for a boy or girl's eclectic bathroom.
If you'd like to create that Harry Potter feel in the home but are averse to murals, decals and memorabilia, try something like this under-the-stairway niche — a nicer, more spacious version of the Dursleys' cupboard under the stairs in the Harry Potter series. Draw little lightning bolts on kids' foreheads, and you've got yourself a home that's ready for some serious make-believe play.
Vampires never sleep, which means Twilight's Edward Cullen and his entire vampiric clan don't invest in bedframes, beddings or mattresses. Get Edward's bed-free look with a Murphy bed or similar style. This contemporary Washington, D.C., bedroom has plenty of storage units and shelving, which slide to reveal a Murphy bed for that "I don't sleep because I'm a brooding vampire" look.

I found a shop that sells items for dolls houses and got myself a door 7 inches tall to glue to the bottom of my front door - a little like a cat door but for imaginary people. It's drying as I write this i can't wait till it's done :D
