this is a deterrent to a gravel patio. smoothing out the gravel would be a constant job. Unless by using larger irregular gravel pieces it would stay in place nicer

I love the organic look of the grass between concrete slabs. But grass would be a maintenance nightmare, between keeping it watered and trimmed and blown off. It would have to be a groundcover if at all.
