I love the symmetrical look. If it is not I feel it looks unbalanced...lout of sorts. Like a dress with one sleeve or two different colored shoes on the same woman or striped socks of different pattern on a male. Drives me crazy. And Ms. Gaskill is right asymmetrical in the wrong hands is beyond awful!

Some symmetry is necessary to balance a room from where the viewer is most likely to stand when entering the room to take it all in. It adds a certain well being and completion to the whole picture rather a scattered and thoughtless picture.
