Sounds like you had mealybugs. The best way to treat for these it to dip a Qtip in rubbing alcohol and touch them with this. You may need to do repeated applications. These are often an indication that you do not have sufficient air circulation in the area where you have your orchids.

Linda, those are gorgeous!! I have had orchids for years. I always get mine to rebloom. Water once a week and feed every other week. Orchid food is a must (also works wonders for the African Violets). I also use water from my koi pond. Here is an orchid wall that we built on the front porch. They're all healthy but I don't get blooms on these. Probably because it gets too much shade in this spot.

Jay should write orchid articles! I have had orchids for years--the thing I would point out about almost all the photos with this article is that they are displaying the orchids in bloom in places where you can't actually leave/grow the plant--the proper window/light is key to getting them to bloom (and survive). So, yes, nice to have it on your coffee table for a couple of days while in bloom, but.....
