One of my favorite slow-down activities is picking wild blueberries. I like to pack a few containers on my mountain bike and ride into the woods every chance I get. I find it to be relaxing and contemplative, not to mention nourishing! I pack my freezer full of them every year.

Thanks for the comment about "chicken TV" - it made me laugh out loud.

We live in the city so no chickens, but we have a bird bath that gives us so much pleasure. We don't get rare or fancy bird visitors, usually just robins or sometimes goldfinches, but we love to watch them sip and splash. We'll start calling it "birdbath TV" from now on. Can't wait for the warmer weather to bring it out.

Funny, when I saw the title of this story I thought "I don't know how to slow down," but when you include things like taking a bath or sitting by a fire pit or working in the garden, I realize that I can, and DO, know how -- I just need to make the time. (Although I can truly appreciate the idea of a daytime movie, a nap, meditating or sleeping in, it just ain't in my DNA.) Thank you for showing so many paths to the same end!
