Perfect irony - with the bench there to contemplate what is the best design they would realize there needs to be a bench there. Quite Zen in a way, By not having the bench there is it is obvious it should be there. A Zen garden is about peaceful existence - merely being - how can that be so when one is moving? Clients will be clients - on the one hand I would like to do some spec design - on the other I need the clients to push me to places I would not go on my own - they provide me the bench on which to think and observe.
