lizziek - the individual blocks are machined to finished dimension in one direction and glued up as sets with wood glue. The sets were then machined to finished width and glued up and clamped for the final assembly. final sanding of the top to remove the glue squeeze out and create the final flat surface. Finish is mineral oil at first and now I use a mineral oil beeswax blend. It took a little planning and a lot of time and glue.

One thing I try to avoid is cutting onions or garlic directly on my butcher block. Maybe it depends on the type of wood, but the smell seems to linger for days. I always use a thick plastic cutting board for those.
