The process suggested above is truly useful to keep microwaves clean & dry, since these itineraries requires more care at home or shop. Else, the dirt & stains can actually kill the looks & capacity of the machine.

I just clean the inside of my microwave with vinegar, water, and lemon juice . I pour about a cup of water into a cup and add a few drops of lemon juice or lemon essential oils. I then put it into my microwave and let it run for about 2 mins. This gets the microwave smelling fresh and gets all the crud out of it. After that I go through and wipe the inside down with a rag soaked in vinegar and water.

I have 3 or 4 covers made specifically for the microwave so I always have a clean one available. I do have to wipe the bottom on occasion but using a cover over any open dish makes extensive cleaning totally unnecessary.
