Our installer said with acid-wash concrete flooring, shiny look has a very strong, lasting smell, and shine needs to be maintained 3 year. Is there an alternative? / This floor's surface of epoxy will scratch after a period of time. The best alternative is POLISHED CONCRETE, more labor intensive, but will last a lot longer. The shine of a polished concrete is from the chemical reaction of the concrete with densifier to create a harness of concrete that is able to be polished with different grids of pads. The result of a polished concrete is a "breathable" surface, meaning no coatings. It RESEMBLES MARBLE NATURAL LOOK. / Do you apply the densifier to the concrete (we just poured in-place concrete countertops) before polishing or after? What do you recommend putting on after polishing? Ostrowski - You can always use a polyaspartic resin to create a "mirror" layer, of 1,5 - 2 kg/sqm. Absolutely UV resistant, will not yellow in time and better characteristics than epoxy. It is much costly, but the effect and performance is absolutely worth the money. No smell. Fast in application. Long lasting...Maciek Ostrowski It's a polyaspartic flooring... It's an example what you can achieve... :-...

If you think of sliding glass doors as being boring or dated, think again. In this San Francisco home designed by Terry & Terry Architecture, a fixed glass transom above, and panes that extend to the walls on each side of the sliding glass doors connect kitchen and garden in a big way. Concrete walls that extend indoors and out and the repeating use of wood further the connection.

island is a mix of plywood and brushed stainless steel for the worktop. The ventilation strips help keep the vegetables inside the drawers fresh. The plywood is treated with lye to lighten the wood although you can see the original colour through the routed pulls for the doors. Dinesen Douglas Fir flooring is used with the offcuts creating the floating shelving and light above the island.
stainless steel countertop can be fabricated in many thicknesses. It really depends on your kitchen, layout and style which thickness works best for you. For this one we did 1 1/4" thickness. Mango Design: we integrated a shed dormer at the front and a butterfly roof over the new addition at rear.
Rossington Architecture: The butterfly roof of the living room allows light to wash the ceiling and create a better cross ventilation solution. The Myrtle Street house took the client’s love of clean, simple detailing and paired it with an environmentally sensitive solution. The existing house was built in 1940 and had a typical compartmentalized layout, with little reference to the site or its solar orientation. The new home opens up the plan to allow for larger gatherings and orients the rooms toward the exterior of the house, embracing indoor-outdoor living. Solar panels, “green” building materials and the addition of natural light are major components of the project.
Kristin Lam Interiors: Rift cut white oak gives a more contemporary feel - veneer on a solid wood substrate. [Slab doors would warp if solid wood.] NO MDF, maple plywood. building Lab: backsplash is white laminated glass - the green hue mostly originates from qualities intrinsic to the glass. It's often referred to as "white lamy" - very typical, "off the shelf." It consists of white filament sandwiched between 2 pieces of 1/8" or 3/16" thick glass." Starting at $45 sq.ft. - Some manufacturers of sheet glass, such as CONTRACTORS WARDROBE offer a palette of colors. The color is actually painted on the back side of a clear glass. If you purchase from companies that bake their finish on at the factory, that is even better! This will ensure your finish won't chip or peel. It is possible to install clear glass on a wall that is painted in order to dictate the color, but you have to be careful with this application. It is important to keep in mind that any bugs or dust that may fall behind your glass will be visible from the front, and there is no way to get back in between the glass and the wall to clean it off, so it is essentially something that will be visible for the life of your backsplash. Easily cleanable surface - Glass is easy to wipe down making it a great option for the backsplash where food prep can easily splatter up on the backsplash w...

Installation. A good window without a good installation won't last, so consider this: Whatever type of siding you have — wood, vinyl, even brick — water will get behind the siding and run down the wall sheathing behind it. So think about the path that water will take when it gets to you window. Building wrap, like Tyvek, should be lapped over so water can't run behind the window. Flashing tape should be used to seal the window's installation flanges to the sheathing. If you are remodeling, install metal head flashing to divert water around the window and pay special attention to caulking.
Here, hopper-style windows are used as transoms to provide ventilation without compromising security. Before ordering windows, think about how you will install the transom above the door. Will there be a space in between, trimmed out as in this picture? If you plan to mull the transom window directly to the top of the door, make sure your salesperson knows and provides a factory trim to cover this joint. Or better yet, have the factory mull the door and transom together. This connection can be a tricky one to make on the job.

building Lab, inc.: they are milgard thermally "improved" sliders. the 'improvement' consists of a plastic spacer between outer and inner extrusions of aluminum. this serves to break the thermal continuity and conductivity of the aluminum thus making about them perform about as well as aluminum doors can. other firms refer to this as thermally broken. To conform with energy code in california, aluminum doors and windows pretty much have to be thermally broken. the two aspects of milgard that are more appealing than most other manufacturers are price and dimension of aluminum frame. you can definitely do better in terms of hardware, operation and overall build quality but you will pay for it.

A power inverter is a critical piece of equipment in any PV system. The inverter takes DC power, either from your solar panels or batteries, and turns it into AC power, ready and usable for your household appliances. Grid-tie and off-grid solar systems use different types of inverters. In a grid-tied system, solar panels connect directly to an inverter which ties into your main household electrical panel. It sends power into the home to run appliances and turns back the meter with excess energy. Grid-Tie inverters come in several options: string inverters, microinverters, and optimizers. Each varies with features and costs. https://www.wholesalesolar.com/power-inverters

Gast Architects: recessed lighting is a pre-packaged Home Depot Gimbal kit (used throughout the house) which was retrofitted to LED. This allowed the clients to get the efficiency, dimming, and color temperature desired for various spaces with the smallest possible housing (4" design). LED kits have evolved since these were installed by the owner. Paris Construction Service: "I'm the contractor who did this project. I use remodel housing can lights. For T&G ceiling you'll have to pop out the sheetrock retaining clips and drill four equal spaced 1/8" holes around the can to suspend the can in the hole with screws (a right angle impact drive works great for installing the screws). You'll also have to build a small plywood box to cover the can up on the roof side (yes it involves roofing) leave some extra wire in the box so if you ever need to remove the can you can just remove the screws and pull it down out the hole for service or replacement."
