I bought the dresser below at a resale store. The hardware on the right is how it all looked when I bought it. The hardware on the left is how it looks now after I cleaned it by boiling the hardware for a couple minutes in a white vinegar and water solution ( 1 cup each). After boiling it, I removed the hardware and buffed it with #0000 steelwool. Easy Peasy. No chemicals needed. If you havent already cleaned your knobs you might want to try this method

forget the restore a finish stuff. that table top is too far gone for a quick fix. Just use the chalk paint and paint it. I refinish wood frequently. to get that top back to looking good again, you'll have to strip it down to bare wood. can you sand it all the way down? yes. but sanding doesn't pull out stain from the grain. Do you really want to do all that sanding, staining, and 3 coats of poly? If you don't remove all that finish, staining it again will be a waste of effort. quite honestly, the table isn't all that to begin with. paint it. Chalk paint is the easiest, but that top will need a very fine sanding after painting in order to remove the rough finish. it's quick and easy to do with a sanding sponge. wipe it clean and apply a wax finish or a poly coat. Annie Sloan Chalk paint, CeCeCaldwell, American Paints, General Finishes chalk paint, all are good brands, all avail on Amazon. Just prep by giving the table a decent cleaning to remove any grime, give the top a fine sanding to remove any loose pieces and smooth it out, and then paint. very simple. these are all paintedthis color is Old Ochre. I've used this color myself on a dresser.
