I like the original lattice inserts for the doubled columns, and more substantial porch supports. The new supports don't line up with the porch columns, and the mortar is too contrasty. I also don't like the oversized gable vent. They appear to have rebuilt the porch roof, which allowed a less visable second floor balcony. Nice landscaping.
Nicely scaled and detailed porch in beach house
Awning with porch
curtains and shutters fitted into a bungalow's front porch.
Quality materials make all the difference in this new old house. Lack of weathering, oversized lamp and flat window casing only clues that this wasn't built c. 1929 or so.
Macintosh influenced railing and built in bench.
Like the subtle design of railing with Tuscan style pillars.
Heavy Mission style pergola supports
steel pickets with wood post system--see discussion for link--and custom storage underneath
Nicely detailed screened/glassed in porch with bead board ceiling and door styled like traditional wood screen door
Nice detail for screened porch
Nice traditional style railing with metal top bar to meet code.
Shows the construction of a simplified rail system that has some of the proportions of a traditional porch.
color of ceiling, schoolhouse light
don't let this happen to your porch
How not to build your deck
Nicely scaled porch
Nice pillars and base and door detail, but not sure about roof above and not a true eave return.
Modern Craftsman. Quite nice, but arch trim seems not quite chunky enough for the posts, and a more exaggerated projection and moving the post inward a hair could have made it feel more supported, or moving the arch out a bit so it lines up with the verticals. My pet peeve is downspouts right next to porch pillars--would have been less intrusive if moved back to face of porch, or to extend the eaves out farther so they aren't required.
light switches built into post
tree branch railings, skeleton panelling
Blue grey trim with red brick, Solid portico and wide steps, probably later addition
bungalow before
bungalow after
light and airy screen porch
double doors match porch panels
Light and airy enclosed porch
Nice modern bungalow, quite close to original. Would like better if mortar wasn't so white--makes it look like a bad repointing job. Concrete caps on pillar bases more period, and probably would hold up better. Minor quibbles--very nice traditional solid house.
stacked closed and open porches, nicely detailled
Beautiful oversized pillars
High style Queen Anne with subdued monochromatic paint scheme.
swan neck railings
natural finish on ceiling and floor
Modern Craftsman with metal railings. Sort of a cross between a bungalow and an American Foursquare.
Rebuilt porches measured to match original, but porch railings do not. Similar to period detail for interior stairwells, so works well.
simple vernacular design
Nicely proportioned screened porch
Very nice Shingle style porch detailing and low apron front railing matching square post base, but with higher upper railing. Not sure if meets current code, but a practical solution, and gap underneath echos pillar caps. Like the rustic gravel (also good for drainage for low lying porch) and bolder for front step. Also like how doors echo two-over-two windows.
Bold colors, original low railing
love the artful arrangement of crosses and the shadows. Not terribly practical, but interesting
nicely detailed porch. varnished porch roof
love wall of traditional style windows in rear of townhouse. Could be from around 1910-1925 or so, or designed to look that way.
