One thing that's helped me a lot with decor decisions is reminding myself that there's no ONE TRUE PERFECT way to do a room. That touches on that preconceived picture of the end result you mention. If I'm having trouble winnowing down my colour scheme, it's because there are many appealing options that would lead to fabulous outcomes. And that's all right. Choosing is hard but it's also fun and really, what's the worst that could happen? If I'm not pleased with the whole, could I tweak an element to improve it? Asking myself that question offers me perspective and a sense of control. It IS daunting to reno and furnish a house to make a home.
