Having a 120 pound Great Dane (who has taken a spill or two down the stairs) this was the perfect article! I've been looking for months and simply couldn't decide on a runner. After this I may simply go bold!

With some runners that have patterns, the waterfall installation (roll off each tread, leaving a little gap between the material and the riser) works well, so that the pattern is not distorted or interrupted when looking at the stairway head-on. I just had a runner with a diamond pattern installed in my home, and this method looked best.
