I really enjoyed reading this. I was always a bit partial to Acorn because I worked there when I was in high school in the 1970s, decades before they merged with Deck. (The founder of Acorn, John Bemis, and his family were some of the loveliest people I have ever met.) I loved their houses then, and I still do; designs by Acorn as well as Deck really have stood the test of time. Unfortunately, their exterior materials probably aren't suitable for the desert southwest where I live now, but the basic design concepts are enduring and could work anywhere, anytime.

@dliz1004 what lovely memories! We actually have some houses that use stucco on the exterior, to help withstand desert conditions. This one is a very unique Deck House in the Southwest :)
