My first house built in 1995 had this issue. You could sit and look down the hall and count the ceiling joists. 18 inches on center as I recall....
It never got worse. As noted above it's a drywall issue. Cosmetic. Not structural. I learned to ignore it. I've actually seen this in a fair number of newer homes.
