Nothing wrong with this
GCB: agree

Very nice but don't free-standing treads like this encourage spreading of dirt? Assuming it's not a good idea.
GCB: could be good, but I'm thinking we need that under stair storage space.
Q

Beautifully executed all around ...
GCB: agree
Q

Beautiful railingGCB: hm -- wouldn't have picked it out, as I prefer the feel of rounded wood, but could be interesting!
Q
Photo
Love the classic treads, old wood, somewhat thin, beveled,GCB: agree!
Q
Photo
Very nice wood floor, why put carpet on the stairs?GCB: agree
Q
Photo
Same house, striking entryGCB: don't like this for us, tho...?
Q
Photo
Quite amazing, however unlikelyGCB: agree because of storage issue
Q
Photo
This is very nice but I find it boringGCB: I think we are looking at simple staircase, because need back to be filled with closet space, right?
Q
Photo
HandsomeGCB: agree
Q

Some kind of distressed-look wood really would be amazing for the staircase. Most of the staircase photos on houzz are either unimaginative or over-the-top / idiosyncratic. The quality/style of the wood used could make all the differenceGCB: agree
Q

Stairs, iron railing are handsome. Also like looks of bookcaseGCB: agree, but I think you'd want prettier wood for both -- for a warmer, richer feel...
Q
Photo
Handsome wood-on-white, open effect, but don't like the wireGCB: agree
Wood floor with somewhat matching staircase looks niceGCB: agree
Q
Photo
V. handsome for a narrow staircaseGCB: agree
Q
Photo
It would be great to have distressed/reclaimed wood for the staircase!GCB: I don't know; could be.
Q
Photo
From this perspective the same staircase looks much nicerGCB: seems fine, but I don't like the glass.
Q
Photo
This seems too plain to me, also don't like the oakGCB: could be warm and pretty... I'm sure you'll choose something nice. I think I like the wood tops look best, but maybe just used to that.
Q
Photo
Very handsomeGCB: could be
Q
Photo
Curious combination modern lines and and rustic/reclaimed wood. I find the idea attractive (if not this implementation)GCB: ok
Q
Photo
Simple staircase again, with plinths. not sure white color for risers and plinths is a smart idea (scuffing). plinth is advisable for scuffing and for beauty?GCB: agree
Q
Photo
Basic modern staircase -- seems boring but perhaps this is the most straightforward way to go (simple dryboard on all sides)GCB: dislike these steps with that metal.
Q
Photo
The zig zag detailing is awful but the staircase seems niceGCB: agree
Q
Photo
Seems like a strikingly handsome staircase (choice of woods)GCB: agree. I think the richness of the wood color is what matters on a stair -- and that can usually be the stain I think?
Q
Photo
Old banister railing, posts/balusters are wonderful, this wood is beautiful (maybe too dark for our house); wouldn't want the moldings, anyway. GCB: agree, but dark could be beautiful as it's in the back (and our front steps are dark on the staircase too)
Q
Photo
Nice effect with cherry bannister, but the cherry steps lead down to a light wood floor below -- odd?GCB: agree
Q
Photo
cherry wood is very handsome on steps, but on floor would be too dark?GCB: I don't know what wood we'll have in entry, in mud room, and in living room... Good thing to figure out!
Q
Photo
Not sure about the thick tread planks, but like the natural wood color and the associated cabinetryGCB: agree with the idea of matching, but I don't like this much -- looks like a DIY job to me.
Q
Photo
This -- oak -- could be very nice but would need to consider floors as well, here and elsewhereGCB: agree, but I think I'm not much of an oak fan
Q
Photo
Dislike the blocky effectGCB: I think we're having half a staircase to a landing, then a turn to continue on up?
Q
Photo
Dislike the plain bannister and its wall ... if that can be avoided.GCB: agree
Q
Photo
In this case the same color (treads/risers) is beautiful because the wood is old and beautiful.GCB: agree
Q
Photo
Dislike the same-color effect (treads, risers). Dislike the thick planks (treads).GCB: agree
Q

The wood steps are beautiful. The white may demand more care (cleaning). banister is greatGCB: agree it's beautiful, but we have paint on ours steps (treads being wood), and it's gorgeous, so I think the treads are all about what wood we use.
