A picture you really like, rather than one just chosen for a decorating effect, except, I would look for one that has at least a hint of a color the neighboring area has. Black frame but a simple one. You have a neutral clean start with what you have. (We can’t see the surrounding area so as to suggest another paint color. More info would have helped us.) Doesn’t look like you have room for an area rug.

Once you hang a picture, the color(s) in it will dictate what else you need to add. A center piece? Dishes? Whatever. Start with the most important thing, put it in place and after a few days you’ll know what else to add. You need something that pops on one shelf. Maybe a plant with some softness. The pot could be an accent color. Or add something fun and whimsical.

Transforming Rooms

Tall drapes really do make a huge impact! They allow the options of room darkening and privacy, as well as making the room feel larger. There are Before/After photos on this Houzz site:

Transforming Rooms - I TOTALLY agree. It seems to be a trade secret to order drapes/curtains/sheers that mount high above the window frame, but when you install them in this way it can transform a room and make it appear visually taller, more grand. I really wish this was common knowledge to the lay person. Such an easy thing everyone can do.
