I'm not impressed with those smart speakers for music and watching telly or movie. They are OK if you don't care. They don't replace bluetooth bars, nor surround sound system.

I received one of these as a gift. At that time I'd never heard of such a thing and had to look it up online to figure out what it was (a bit ironic). I have had it for over a year and still can't really figure out the point of it. I suppose if you invest a lot of money into making other parts of your home "smart" it can do things for you, but I never exactly found it difficult to turn on/off a light, and already have the outdoor lights on a sensor so they just pop on when I pull in the driveway after dark. There's the option of hooking up a thermostat, which of course doesn't work with a wood stove, and we don't live somewhere with AC. Others make a grocery list, but personally it's nice actually having the visible list posted on the fridge so everyone in the family can see what's on it. I've tried to program it to do things that I might like it to do, like tell me the weather or the ski report, but the weather app is very restrictive in terms of location and won't give me anything local or relevant. I wouldn't use it to shop online for things sight unseen. I can't have groceries etc. delivered in my zip code. I can't order takeout. The uses of this are for those who either live in the city or have highly automated vacation homes or something they wish to monitor from afar.

@bconway80 I'm with you on that. I'm waiting until that technology is a lot more stable, works with no electricity and can be secured. I can see some uses like, if one falls and is alone, can "call" for help, or turn on outside lights if one hears a noise, etc. Until then, I'll stick with my shopping list and pick out my own fresh veggies. Besides, I like to"run away" from home every so often!
