Someone here mentioned about trends that "failed." Failed how? That's subjective, because if they failed so miserably they wouldn't have been popular at the time. An idea that doesn't come to fruition is a fail. A trend that sells, is just that - a successful trend. They may be trends that we cringe at when we look back...shoulder pads, fabric covers for toilets, etc. but they definitely weren't fails at the time! In a consumer driven society, if they sold in the market for a hefty profit, and you can bet those shoulder pads and toilet seat covers sold like mad = success!!
