Falling into a reverie of remembrance. My mother also taught me to bake pies, with many of the ideas Whitely uses, and now I see opportunities to remember my Mom and bake some more. I love the decorative ideas and I am already known in family circles, both sides, for carving pictures and designs into my pies. I will try this type of crust, the flavor idea is intriguing. By the way, I use Jonathan apples for my apple pies. IMHO the best apple for cooking out there.

Just took one out of the oven.....looks SUPER! Followed all the directions. Only question was how many cups of apples do your 6 make? I used a bunch of small local ones and could have used more.... I liked working with this crust — easier than my old go-to. Hint: roll between sheets of wax paper: less mess, easier flipping into dish and no sticking! I did cheat a bit and open the oven door for 5 minutes before leaving it in the extra half hour. I made some ‘cookies’, too, and can tell the crust is going to be really flaky. Still a few hours before dinner so I’ll let you know how it yummy the boys think it is!
