Straight Street possibilities
What about shiplap TILE for over the fireplace? Too modern?
I like the beat-up look
Ceramic, but looks old & cement-like
A little classier, (also more expensive)
Splurge on indoor doors? Only have 3 downstairs (and 3 upstairs). Hm.
Still like black and white vanity. If 48" single sink possible, that would be my preference.
This is RevAShelf offering. Looks pretty good, and there's additional room above (if we go to ceiling) for vases, trays, etc.
This is the right coloration (antique brass, alabaster shade); would go with but not compete with the authentic Art Deco chandelier for the dining room.
Here's a typical, traditional Inglenook in a Craftsman home. Mine's too small for both sides, but Monica suggested the right side for a bench and maybe a little bookshelf. Two reasons: 1. Comfy place to curl up, read, get warm. 2. Back of the bench can be a wall, against which I can put the children's game table.
Like the black/white. Will the measurements work? I think so.
Monica, this is called Tennessee Fieldstone. I like the size and the colors, the way they're represented here. Large enough to be bold, but not a caricature. Lots of different tones in it.
