Design Works

I hired Susan and Ellyn from Design Works in April to help me design my master bath. It was to be a total re-model from top to bottom. My objective was to make it comfortable for an aging body, luxurious for a woman, resalable for a possible couple, timeless yet up to date. And not white! It had to have some bling, a free standing tub and a chandelier. Susan and Ellyn met everyone of my needs and dreams and so much more. They helped me find a wonderful contractor who was detail oriented and brought in careful workmen. When we had to change tile Susan and Ellyn managed the change, kept me claim and the project moving forward. I loved working with the team and could not be happier with my new master bath,

Design Works provided their expertise on two home design projects. Our kitchen was the largest project, providing them with a blank canvas down to the bare studs in this limiting space. Through their ingenuity and creativity, they provided us with a kitchen beyond our imagination. Their input for the location of appliances and cabinetry proved to be invaluable in the total design and function. Their attention to detail (can you say authentic chicken wire glass) finished off a kitchen we totally love and find to be so easy to cook in. Our master bedroom and adjoining office experienced a makeover, thanks to Design Works. They transformed this enormous space into a beautiful, warm, balanced restful area for sleeping. The adjoining office's final design facilitates anyone being their creative best. From paint color to unusual decorative accents, these "new" spaces now truly fulfill their purpose.

I have been working with Design Works on many different projects and over the course of several years. I keep coming back because they are so great! Most recently, Susan and Diana helped us with a complete kitchen renovation, as well as with finishing a room in our basement as a billiard room and re-designing the stairway entry to the basement. We couldn't be more pleased with the results. I think our kitchen looks like it could be featured in a design magazine, and I can say the same about our new billiard room. In the kitchen, they helped us select cabinet finishes, countertops, faucets, cabinet hardware, window treatments, lighting, and paint finishes, as well as the accessorizing. In the basment, they came up with the idea for a beautiful, custom multi-color slate fireplace and craftsman-style wood mantle, as well as craftsman-style wood railings for the basement entry. They also helped us decide on flooring, and paint finishes for the basement, as well as accessorizing the space beautifully. We had some ideas initially, but couldn't put it together and became paralyzed with the decision-making process. I can't say enough about their knowledge, experience, and calming effect! They work hard, meet timelines, and have excellent ideas. They took into account our taste, but were not afraid to let us know if they thought something would not work. They take the hard work and stress out of the design equation for the client.

Design Works has provided me with several makeovers and full room designs. The designers are personable, knowledgeable and savvy. They have completely furnished a living room/dining room combination set in a large room of an old stone farmhouse with 5 doors, not an easy feat but executed perfectly. After each service we feel that the rooms finally look the way we have wanted them to look for years, and I have to say that is true for every one of their room designs. We have worked with this company for many years, beginning in 2010 through the present, and look forward to an ongoing relationship.

Susan did a great job with my apartment. She was able to make 350 square feet feel spacious and luxurious for a reasonable budget. She was able to incorporate many of my existing pieces as well as new furniture to make a cohesive look. I constantly get compliments from guests who visit my home and really enjoy being in my space. I would highly recommend her and her team to anyone looking for design services.

I have used Design Works twice for two different New York City apartments. Susan and her team are exceptionally easy to work with and have a knack for understanding my vision. We had productive meetings and did most of our work over email. When the time came for both of my reveals, I went to work excited that my apartment was going to be completely turned around when I returned. In both cases (though the apartments were very different in size, light, and storage options) they set me up with a beautiful, ergonomic place to call home. I no longer live in the NYC/NJ area and often find myself wishing they could be here to help me decorate my new place. I recommend Susan and her team without reservation. Through their design, my apartments were oases of warmth, charm, and style in the big city!

I hired Design Works to help me complete a bedroom resign gone awry. I was very nervous about going forward after having made a few costly mistakes on my own. Susan and her partner successfully guided me through the remaining big decisions of selecting the lighting, window treatments, area rug, and accessories. They helped me comb through my personal treasures to see what I already had that would fit well in the room. After that they filled in the rest of the accessories with purchases they made, brought to my home, and allowed me to pick from. They arranged everything in a very artful and naturally balanced way, and they always put function first! The only complaint I have is that I didn't understand the billing process at first and I wished that had been made fully clear to me from the start. All in all though, a very successful experience! I would definitely work with this design team again and I confidently recommend them to my friends...
