High Rock Design

We hired High Rock design to remodel our house, to give it a new look upfront and also added a two car attached garage out back. Shaughn was amazing!!! I can't say enough good things about working with him. The thing is, we had a very 'flat' looking garrison colonial - it was a tiny little ranch years ago that we added a second floor and turned it into a pretty 'blah' looking side entrance colonial. We asked Shaughn to added a porch out front where we can sit in the warmer months - his work completely changed the look of the house and made it really charming and up to date! we had some space issues to add the two car garage out back, he was able to come up with some really creative ways to get that done. Over all the design was really awesome! The best thing about Shaughn is his attention to details - he came by a few times to measure to his satisfaction in order to come up with the detail plans. The plan included what he suggested as material, door model, window make and model. all referenced, researched and validated. He also worked with the town guideline to ensure that we would not have issues with the new space outside as far as being too close to the neighbor or too close to the road. We had several contractors looked at his plan, and was told that they have never worked with a plan so detailed which allowed them to give us an extremely accurate bid. The end result is great and we didn't go over the budget - right on the estimates - that is all because of the detailed plan.

We met with Shaughn to discuss a project where we were adding approximately 2,000 sq ft to our existing 140 year old Victorian home. This included a new back stairwell encompassing four floors, four completely new rooms, three renovated rooms, a completely new full bathroom and a new over sized garage. We had not yet selected a GC for the project and neither my wife nor I had previous experience in such a large project before. Truth be told we were very nervous about the unknowns heading in to a year-long large project. It was imperative for us to have a great set of architectural plans that removed as many 'unknowns' as possible, and that's exactly what we got with Shaughn & High Rock Design. Shaunghn took great care in listening to us and focusing on what we said, even if we didn't know exactly how to say what we were trying to say. We expressed how important it was for us that the new house look as though it had always been there - we didn't want it to be obvious that an addition was done. Shaughn researched homes like ours and came back with recommendations that turned out to be excellent. He was always very organized (which my wife the Project Manager loved), always followed through on what he said he was gong to do without having to be asked, and his communication skills with us and with our general contractor were excellent. He was our advocate with our GC on matters that were a little over our head, and he found a way to work well with him and his crew as needed. I could go on but the the bottom line is that Shaughn was exactly what we were looking for. Someone that listened to our wants and needs, made recommendations that fit those wants and needs, and was there for us from beginning to end. We couldn't have been happier with Shaughn and we hope to work with him again in the future.

I met with Shaughn this morning about designing dormers for my gambrel cape home. He had pulled a picture of our house from the town records and with a piece of tracing paper overlay, he came to my house with a sketch of what he thought would look right for the house. This without any obligation and nothing more than one phone call to set up the appointment. The sketch was fantastic. He was very personable and professional (he even took his shoes off when he came in the house - most contractors don't so that). No pushy sales talk at all. He seemed genuinely interested in the design and the look itself instead of just making a sale. He provided a few different ideas (along with what he thought things would end up costing us) and stuck around a bit to talk these through with us. He even gave me some structural ideas on a shed that I am building myself – nothing to do with why he was here. I hired him to draw up the plans after this initial meeting. I am very skeptical when it come to contractors and this is something I never do, but we were that impressed. This was only our first meeting but so far so good.
