Oh and under "timeless", what about apothecary jars and cloches? I don't know if these qualify as "design" pieces, but I love these and it seems I could never have too many.

I think with apothecary jars it depends whether you use them to hold necessary things or just as a design statement. With cloches I think it depends how it’s displayed and what’s under it. Air plant? Trendy. Used to protect a family heirloom? Timeless.

I do use apothecary jars as design statements, but I'm finding more and more uses for these as out-in-the-open storage, for foodstuffs, cleaning supplies, personal grooming/hygiene items, etc. It seems to me that people might need less storage space if there were more ways to display practical items out in the open without having them be eyesores; not always possible depending on one's decor style (e.g., the vacuum cleaner), but it could create more mindfulness in our purchases if we looked for practical things that are also beautiful, and beautiful things that are also practical.

As for cloches, I currently own a grand total of one (which I use multi-seasonally) but I would like to build a collection of these as well. An heirloom in need of protection would be nice, but for now I'll have to settle for those decorative (albeit handcrafted) items that need more substance to stand on their own.
