I love the idea of using a thin fabric behind mesh inserts in cabinets. I would like to have clothes closet doors like that.

We have a Bentwood oak hutch that was just too reminiscent of the 80's so I sanded it and painted it a light sage green. Took out the brass colored, leaded glass inserts in the top of the hutch because I was going to replace them with chicken wire. My husband wanted a more refined look but we couldn't afford the beautiful meshes like your photos have. We recycled some wire hardware cloth that we had and my husband cut it to fit the openings perfectly. I got some bronze spray paint at Walmart to coat the wire and it now looks like a very pretty French style cabinet. With new hardware and paint the entire project only cost about $25 and a lot of elbow grease!

Had fun reading the article.

The nod to history bit picture sure looks like a lot of work to do. Drilling 1,500 holes by hand while looking amazing sure looks like labor of love.
